Colonial Farms German Shorthaired Pointers
Princess and Puppies April 2003
The German Shorthaired Pointer The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed in Germany during the 1800s to be an "all-purpose" dog. They are very versatile dogs that can not only hunt, point, retrieve and track, but are great family dogs, too! Their scenting ability to locate and point game as well as their willingness to retrieve fur or feather, on land or in water, is a natural skill that has been bred into them for many generations! Physically, their short hair and tail are less maintenance daily for both the homeowner and the hunter after a day in field. They have webbed feet and therefore are naturally good swimmers, as well.

Puppy Information Below is Rose and Champ's Litter that was born in November 2003. All puppies are born deaf and blind and do not open their eyes or start to walk until they are almost 2 weeks old! As sporting dogs, their tails are docked and their dewclaws removed at 3 days old, to prevent injuries in the field and brush. Notice the beautiful solid liver (brown) heads and variations in their markings at birth. Their patches will remain the same from birth, but each puppy will be unique as they mature. Please browse through our mature puppy's photos in our "Photo Album" to give you an idea of how these variations will look at maturity.

GSP puppies are born white and patched liver, but soon the white areas will fill in with various shades of "ticking" (a pretty speckled design). Some ticking will be lighter and some darker as they grow. Notice our July 2004 litter below at only 4 weeks old, the ticking is evident in various shades. You can visit our "Photo Album" on the left to see how the shades of ticking will differ at maturity. They are eating dry dog food by 4 weeks of age as they are weaned from their mother. We put different color collars on them as soon as they are able to stand up, so that we can identify them easier. We pay close attention to them daily as we learn their distinct personality differences, which are already forming by 4 weeks. We will know that "SPECIAL ONE" that you are looking for!
Our puppies are very well socialized. We have 2 sons and their friends who look forward to puppy time at our home, almost as much as we do. Family, Friends, and neighbors are all happy to come by and visit and play with the puppies. Our puppies have great calm personalities and make wonderful housedogs. We attribute this not only to our breeding program, but also to all of all the attention they receive as puppies in our home. Shown above is our son, Christopher, with the 2 females from our July 2005 litter. The Dam and Sire were Rose and Ibbi.
"Hershey" July 2005 Litter (Rose and Ibbi) Our puppies have natural hunting instincts bred into them and are pointing pheasant wings ... before 8 weeks of age! Make sure we show you this, when you come to pick up YOUR puppy ... and don't forget to bring the camera, as we are sure you will want a photo of this memorable event! Above is Hershey POINTING and HOLDING until her owner says to "Get it!" ... and at only 9 weeks old! She was from Ibbi's first sired litter in July 2005. Ibbi (pronounced EEBEE) is our new field-champion bred stud dog. The Dam was Rose ... and unfortunately it was her FINAL litter. We look forward to many more beautiful puppies from Ibbi and our other Lady German Shorthaired Pointers.
